What is Equality?
All you hear about these days is “equality” – from things ranging from important to irrational. It is the stolen phrase of justice, the adulterated daughter of liberty.
Yet very few have even given a moments thought into what it means. Are we all to be exactly equal? Identical, even? Do we abolish classes? Gouged out our eyes, deplete our senses so that the lot of us become senseless beasts groveling in the shadows, making sense of the shapes like the inhabitants of Plato’s Cave?
No. Not one person would wish this fate. And very few want equality anyways. Most people want the freedom to do whatever they desire to do and who cares about any Other person. The “Other” is expendable. The Other is to be bent and manipulated. Promise the Other freedom to do as they please, granted they help you achieve your end, and you wrap the Other in a leash you can use as a noose. This is the way most abuse that word, “equality.”
But true equality must not be treated so idealistically, pragmatically, or irrationally! Equality should be the equal opportunity for all to rise to a similar level of comfort in what they desire. There is no guarantee. If an individual refuses to work at a goal, they don’t deserve to achieve it.
Equality gives opportunity.
State issued rations of “equality” gives equal bonds to all who take of it. That is what it is – bondage. A social contract of power over the weak. Submit to that bondage and you will never take the opportunity that true equality has to offer.
